Faial is probably the best destination of the Azores. You might have already done a lot of research about your upcoming visit to the blue island, but you have still questions? It is important to us that you can fully enjoy your holiday. If you have any questions or need assistiance in planning your trip, just ask us. How to get to Faial

Faial can be reached by plan with direct flights from Lisbon and flights from São Miguel, Terceira, Flores and Corvo. Or you can take the ferry from Pico, São Jorge, Terceira or Graciosa.

How to get around

To be fully mobile in Faial you best rent a car. But taxis or scooters are an alternative, too.

Ferries to the other islands

Faial is all year around connected by ferry to Pico and São Jorge. During the summer there are also services to Graciosa and Terceira.

Hiking

There are a lot of spectacular hiking trails on Faial. Foremost the hike around the Caldeira or the Levadas. If you want to climb Pico, just take the ferry.

Whale watching

Faial is the perfect spot to observe the giants of the sea. The season is from March to October.

Diving

The waters around Faial are a paradise for snorkeling, scuba diving or apnoe diving. Take an unforgettable trip to Princes Alice Bank and dive with sharks and manta rays.

Excursions

Faial might be small, but there are plenty of places to explore. Many of those off the beaten track. Andreas can help you in putting together your program.

Locations

Faial has 13 parishes each of them with something to discover. If you need tips, then ask Andreas.

Guided tours

Andreas is a tour guide for Faial and Pico. If you stay with us, you will get a discount.

Taxis

Taxis are available and affordable. From A trip from The Plantation Faial to the city or to the airport costs about 10€. We are happy to call a taxi to you.

Public transport

Public transport on Faial is very limited. There is a city bus and a bus service around the island. Though they are not streamlined for sightseeing.

Scooters and bikes

As an alternative to a rental car or taking a taxi consider renting a scooter or a bicycle. Please consider though the weather and that our roads are very steep.

Museums

Faial has very interesting museums, foremost the Fábrica da Baleia, the old whale processing factory and the Interpretation Center of the Volcano of Capelinhos.

Festivities

All summer long there are every weekend a lot of smaller and bigger festivities on Faial. Be it the Holy Spirit festivities in the villages or the 10 day long Semana do Mar in the city of Horta.

Eating

Faial has restaurants for all tastes. In the summer you should though make a reservation beforehand. Most of the restaurants are open at noon and from 19:00. Check also our private chef offers.

Shopping

Being in the middle of the Atlantic means that shopping opportunities are limited. There are three supermarkets in Horta, and a number of smaller grocery stores around the island. The possibilities to buy clothes or equipment are limited.

Booking your stay

Check in and check out

Your rooms are ready at 15:00, if you arrive early feel free to drop your baggage. Please do not forget to let us know your time of arrival. Check out is until 11:00, you can leave your baggae if needed

Breakfast

All our stays include our rich breakfast buffet. Breakfast is served between 8:00 and 10:00. If you need to leave early, let us know and we arrange.

How to find us

The Plantation Faial is located in the village of Feteira about 5 km from Horta, half way to the airport. It is about a 500m walk from the seashore.

Accessability

Our Yellow Room is accessible, in case you have any special needs, please contact us beforehand.

Special diet

If you have a special diet or allergies, please inform us beforehand so that we can make sure to have it available.

Beach towels

Please bring your own beach towels. Ours are white and if used on our black sandy beaches they would look nasty 😉

Guest information

Upon check in you will receive all information needed for your stay, including a map of Faial and a list of restaurants with contacts.

Safety and security

Faial is very safe and crime is unusual. Nevertheless keep an eye on your belonging. Our house is equiped with smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.

House rules

Our basic rule is to make all our guests feel at home. Please always think of the other guests, some like to sleep early, some like to sleep long.
